January, 2011

We're furiously getting ready for our Winter Open House this Saturday, January 8th. All of our class samples for the winter's classes will be up, refreshments will be served, and there will be a free demo at 11 and 1 showing you how to create wonderful landscape quilts. It's also Thursday Block of the Month pick up from 10-12 so lots will be going on all day! The new newsletter is now on our website, so check out all of the exciting activities that will be going on through April.

Meetings are at 10 and 6 this Thursday, January 6th, for our First Thursday Block of the Month. Some of the other blocks are ending, such as Pretty in Pastel and Bed of Roses. Several new ones are being added. "A Christmas Celebration" features traditional Christmas colors and Christmas fabrics in a sampler quilt. It is $5.00 for the first block; bring it back finished and the next one is also $5.00; if you don't bring it back it will be $7.00. "Delbert and Leona" is a beautiful large quilt in blues and beiges. Simply pick up your kit for $21.99 each month; if you need a little help, there is a class one Monday night a month to help you make that month's section. For the fans of machine applique, we'll start a Monthly Mini series by Patch Abilities in January. These are small table top quilts with their own stand. The cost is $25 to sign up (this gives you the stand) and $25 each month for the kit. The kit contains the fabric for the front of the quilt and the bindin g, a "topper" for the stand (11 months), and any buttons or trims that are needed. Oops--we forgot to put this one in the newsletter! You can see all of these quilts online by searching for "Patch Abilities" and then clicking on Blocks of the Month and then going to "Monthly Minis #4." All three of these blocks of the month are 12 month projects. A new Bible Block of the Month starts January 8th at 8:15 a.m. or Tuesday, January 11th at 12:30 p.m. The Bible Study "Bad Girls of the Bible" is free; the kit for the quilt block is $10 and we'll cut out the pieces in class. A wool applique block of the month called "Flowers in the Round" will start in February.
